GEC Z5045 Wembley (Large Brim)

Another unidentified Wembley lantern from the GEC, this version appears to be similar to my other Wembley except it has a larger canopy. It is complete except for its refractor ring.

It is a modification of the GEC Z5045 range. Instead of external springed hooks, the refractor dome is held by three internal springs.

Taking a two-pin lampholder, this lantern originally took a tungsten bulb.

It originally stood in Braintree, Essex, where the lighting engineer rescued it from the skip - good man! As a sawn-off finial was included, it was probably removed when the street light was converted to side-entry sodium.

Fellow collector P. had a spare refractor dome and so the lantern was completed - although it still required a thorough restoring.

It has now been mounted on a large Eastbourne bracket.
