GEC Z8228B Difractor

Popular on railways, the GEC Z8228B Difractor lantern was designed for main road lighting. Dating from the early 1950s, this model features the deep prismatic bowl, which is the Difractor optical system.

This is a later version of the lantern (dated 1960 according to the date code on the glass) and features the tapered prismatic bowl.

It isn't known where this lantern originally stood, but was probably installed somewhere near March in the East Of England.

The harp bracket is part of the lantern's design.
