GEC Horizal Z8425

The Horizal was one of the the first lanterns designed to burn the early medium pressure bulbs (MA) horizontally. To achieve this, it's fitted with a magnetic deflector, the field from which repelled the arc in the bulb, stopping it from bowing upwards.

Introduced in 1938, the Horizal is an example of an assembled lantern - it can be fully disassembled to a collection of metal frames.

Obtained from fellow collector Bob Cookson, it isn't known where this lantern was originally installed.
