GEC Z8426

The Z8426 was the GECs first 'turtle' design which would undergo subtle modifications over the years.

The bowl doesn't have any refractor grooves, but does feature the large white spot, an attempt to limit the amount of light directly below the lantern.

The most interesting feature of the lantern is the fitting of the bowl to the canopy. When the toggle is opened, the shoe hinges away from the canopy/bowl unit, allowing the bulb to be replaced from within the shoe. (This followed a similar design of the early Thorn Alpha 3s - but both changed to allow the bowl to be unclipped in the future).

This lantern originally stood somewhere in the Burton area.
