Holophane Post-Top (French)

An eBay win, this lantern appears to have a rather odd history.

Obviously dating from the 1930s to the 1950s, it has a cast iron base, and is fitted with near perfect Holophane 4446 bowl and canopy (both made out of heavy glass). The copper finial and decorative strip are both copper and have gone green with age.

I didn't meet the seller, but the lantern was given to me in two modern Holophane boxes, with contact numbers for the local council written on them. Inside one of the boxes was a small paper brochure giving descriptions of modern decorative Holophane lanterns - similar to, but not the same as the one I had.

I can only guess that the council removed their last original glass lantern, stored it carefully and then contacted Holophane for modern replacements. And when they turned up, the original was stored away safely in one of the boxes; until it became surplus to requirements.

All well and good - except this lantern is French. The House/Path and other details on the rim of the glass are definintely not English!
