REVO Magnalite Two-Way 180° C8873
The REVO Magnalite range encompassed a series of wing-type open lanterns made for all road classes.
These families of lanterns utilised varying numbers of wings for different road configurations.
The wing type lantern was originally patented by Haydn Harrison and utilised a facetted array of mirrors to
create the curved reflecting surfaces. (Such lanterns were manufactured by ESLA and sold as the Bi-Multi range).
REVO sidestepped the patent by using specially shaped glass for their lanterns, justifying the extra complexity as
"the absence of gaps in the continuity of the mirror surface greatly increased the collecting zone."
This lantern, along with its conduit, was salvaged from Cane Hill Hospital. It was purchased from the demolition contractors
in 2009 when the majority of the derelict hospital was pulled down. It used to be fixed to the northern corner of the Administration
Block, a building which was destroyed by fire in 2010 and subsequently demolished.
It was given a coat of silver paint when installed on the hospital building (in keeping with Croydon and Coulsdon's colour schemes)
but little remains and the factory green shows through.
