concrete utilities' museum of street lighting: original inventory

Concrete Utilities produced a catalogue of the exhibits in the museum. It was mainly a simple list of the indoor and outdoor exhibits with colour frontispiece and green cover.

The descriptions of the exhibits was concise. I dimly recall - when visiting the museum in 1980 - that the descriptions were provided by the donators, which is why the information varied from the brief to detailed.

The catalogue was produced when the museum first opened in 1975. Pictures from 1980, especially by Rodney Marshall, show how the collection had grown, and the around a third of the exhibits were new. I'm not aware of any updated catalogues.

The outdoor exhibits section is shown below. For the full catalogue, including the indoor exhibits, then view the PDF.

This Museum was established in 1975 as part of the programme of activities to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Concrete Utilities.

We are indebted to all those who presented or loaned items to this collection which is now established as a place of reference for all those interested in the history of public lighting.
