70W MBI Replacement Scheme

An intreguing new lighting scheme is being proposed to a village parish council. If they agree, a village will have its modern SOX lighting replaced with antique street lighting fixtures. Albeit ones burning the most recent metal halide technology.

One lantern has already been installed as a prototype. This old REVO C14408T Bell Top 80W MBF/U lantern has been fully restored, and mounted on a REVO B31 column. It has also been painted in the original county's colours.

However, 70W SON gear has been installed in the A C Ford box and an elliptical 70W CDM lamp with a diffused coating has been fitted. The light is extremely good, and closely resembles tungsten.

The proposal is to replace all the old SOX pole mounted lighting with fully restored REVO lanterns burning CDM lamps. Existing concrete columns will have their brackets and SOX lanterns replaced with Thorn Gamma Sixes - again fitted with metal halide bulbs.

Unfortunately the lighting engineer has only a limited number of these lanterns (REVO C14408T) and asks if anyone has any spare. Swaps or purchase can be negotiated. Contact me if you can help.

Lanterns: REVO C14408T (circa late 1950s- late 1960s)
Bracket: REVO B31 (circa late 1940s - late 1960s)
