kirby lantern

Kirby Lantern
Tungsten And Mercury

The Kirby is a low priced lantern with good daylight appearance for 60/200W GLS tungsten or for 80/125W mercury discharge lamps, Types MB/U or MBF/U. It is made in four versions offering alternative forms of light control.

Application
For Group 'B' roads.

Specification
The canopy is die-cast from LM-6-M silicon aluminium alloy and finished inside and out in 'aluminium paint'. There is adequate movement space inside for mains connection. An earth terminal and grub screw to secure to a bracket are fitted. The internal reflector plate is anodised aluminium. The hinge-pin is stainless steel. The pin securing the neat latch between canopy and bowl is phosphor bonze, selected to give reliable service for many years.

Light Distribution
Overall height 11 3/8" (28-9 cm) diameter 10 1/8" (25-7 cm). Top entry tapping ¾" BSP. Weight of lantern without glass refractor dome 4½ lbs. (2.0 kg). Weight of lantern with glass refractor dome 6½ lbs (2.8 kg).

Light Distribtion data are only given for the guidance of the Lighting Engineer and represent the results of laboratory tests on a typical lantern taken from stock. The data are based on the lamp characteristics stated; if the latest lamp efficiency is different, the candela or lumen values should be calculated in direct propotion to the relative lamp lumens.

Kirby Lantern with 'Diakon' Refractor Bowl

'Diakon' is a clear thermo-plastic, suitable for injection moulding and is virtually unbreakable. The refractor bowl used on the 'Kirby' is moulded in one piece by a tool the inner portion of which collapses to facilitate removal of the bowl and ensures accurately moulded prisms. Horizontal prisms are moulded on the inside of the bowl and vertical prisms on the outside, these are therefore self cleaning due to the washing action of rain. Hinge and catch blocks are moulded in position.

Light Distribution: two way non-axial.

Mercury Lamps: only the 80W MBF/U lamp should be used in 52/61814.

Tungsten Lamps: 60/150 watt GLS.
