atlas beta three sodium lantern
An attractive lantern for the economical lighting of Group B roads. It incorporates all control gear and is thus the ideal lantern for conversion schemes.
Specification
Special Features. An attractive plastic canopy is used in this lantern, but the main weight is supported by an internal
metal spine for attachment directly to the column bracket. Transformer, P.F. capacitor and terminal block are incorporated so that the lantern
is entirely self contained, a particularly valuable feature when overhead supplies are used. The diffusing plastic bowl is
attached by two quick-release toggles (one captive) and a weatherproof joint is ensured by a water repellent,
closed-cell Neoprene gasket. The wide canopy gives added protection to this joint and the metalwork.
Optical System. Light control is based on the projected area principle; this is, for a uniformly bright enclosure the luminous intensity in any direction
will be directly proportional to the projected area in that direction. In addition, however, the preferential distribution of the sodium lamp itself is
utilised to give added brightness in the direction of the main beams, so that the distribution shown in the diagram is achieved without the use of
reflectors or refractor plates.
Materials. The canopy and bowl are of plastic sheet. The main spine is cast aluminium LM6M and the toggle catches are stainless steel.
Finish. The bowl and canopy are treated with an anti-static compound and the gasket with a silicone preserving grease whilst the main spine is finished natural.
Installation. For side entry mounting, ¾ B.S.P. is standard and a 4" long spigot is required. The lantern can be supplied to fit a 1" B.S.P. spigot against special order.
Lamps. ATLAS Sodium lamps. 40W or 60W SOI/H or 40W SOX lamps.
