Beta Five on 1501 steel column
atlas beta five
sodium lantern

This lantern is designed for Group 'B' road lighting at a mounting height of approximately 15 ft. and a spacing of 90-120 ft.

Specification

Special Features. A special feature of the lantern is the bowl design which improves the speed and efficiency of lantern cleaning. Being quickly detachable, it can be removed completely from the lantern without releasing retaining screws, for complete immersion in a container of detergent - a far more satisfactory method than cleaning with a wet cloth.

Because of this feature, it is also an attractive proposition for users who change and clean refractor bowls in bulk at their depots. An increasing number of the larger Public Lighting Authorities are now adopting this method.

The standard lantern is supplied with an extruded diakon prismatic refractor bowl having sealed opal injection moulded diakon end caps. The lantern can be supplied to be requirements of the aero screen distribution specification No. HE6/80/01 by the attachment of a glass fibre canopy to the standard lantern.

A vandal-proof refractor bowl moulded from high-impact resistant material is available and may be ordered as a replacement item or as a special feature of a complete lantern.

A moulded lantern is incorporated into the end caps to allow stacking of bowls during routine maintenance.

Materials. The canopy and bowl retaining ring are made in die cast aluminium alloy having a high resistance to corrosion. Mounting for side entry is ¾ BSP or 1" BSP x 3½ and for top entry ¾" BSP or 1" BSP threaded, to BSS 1788. The top entry version will accept 1½" length of thread.

Lamps. The lantern will accomodate 45/60W SOI/H, SO/H and 40W SOX lamps, all of which will operate with the control gear supplied in the lantern.

The lamp control gear is housed within the lantern canopy - a essential feature when the lantern is used on the latest types of slim steel, concrete and aluminium columns, which have smaller base compartments than the older, more bulky, column designs. Adequate space is then available for mounting time switch fuses and sealing chamber and for maintaining this equipment.
