bromford tube installation

These pictures were taken by Mr. C. D. Griffiths, Public Lighting Assistant to the Hamstead Borough Council, Electricity Department, of the recent installation of improved street lighting in the district. They were published in Public Lighting #14 in 1939.

They show the specialised roots often required in such installations.

The captions are from the original article. I suspect a couple might be incorrect - Slow Cranked Root and Angled Root - when compared with roots.

Flattened Root for use when depth can be obtained but there is insufficient width.

Slow Cranked Root where there is obstruction in the line of a straight root.

Angle Root.

Erecting a column with Extra Long Root to meet the peculiar circumstances illustrated.

"The old and the new".

The new steel column is shown erected and the old cast iron post, of shorter mounting
height is about to be taken down.

Originally it would appear that the lamp was housed in the oval fitting at the top of the column, to be raised later by the overhanging bracket.
