Costain Concrete Co. Ltd.
Dolphin Square
Victoria
London S.W.1

Are display columns and brackets approved by The Royal Fine Art Commission with outreaches of various sizes. Their design gives an advantageous comparison in the width of pavement mounting added to which the sloping road face to the pile gives sufficient space for a double decker bus on a cambered road to have clearance when the column is erected hard up to the kerb. The principle of design is that the concrete in prestressed columns or poles is in a state of compression thus when subjected to bending during handling, transporting or erect, no portion of the concrete will not crack. The lighting columns are designed to the British Standards Specification with a door opening of 27-in. x 6-in. x 9-in. - APLE Conference Programme 1949
