Believed to the the Holophane Sodium Cylindrical Lantern made under license.
??? 140W SO/H BC Top Entry No Gear 1953 Journal

star I
Refractor: Holophane 4116, 2/4116, 22/4116.
For Group B roads. Believed to be the ELECO Welwyn made under license with slight cosmetic changes. Single piece dome refractor lantern. Includes automatic focusing of lamp and registration of the refractor, quick release clips for the removal of the refractor and a single piece refractor available in three distributions. The Star I has a diameter of 10" and is intended for smaller wattage GLS, MB/U and MBF/U lamps. There are only three main parts: body casting, lampholder bridge assembly and refractor. The body casting (silicon aumninium alloy LM6M) is provided internally with three sets of tapped bosses for the fixing of the lampholder bridge assembly. The bridge assembly is a simple bridge piece (mild steel cadmium plated) carrying the lampholder with bayonet slots to engage fixing screws in the bosses. The bayonet slots allow the bridge to be changed from one set of bosses to another or to be removed for wiring without the complete withdrawal of fixing screws. The body also has two totally enclosed enclosed spring loaded clips (mild steel cadmium plated) for the retention of the refractor. The refractor is of the single piece dome type with prisms moulded on both the external and internal surfaces. A projection on the neck of the refractor engates with a recess in the body casting and ensures correct angular location. Exterior finish is aluminium, interior finish and underside of reflector is white.

Bowl Refractor lantern for Group A roads. Embodies a dustproof construction, smooth outer surfaces to the bowl, snap action toggle fasteners, symmetrical, non-axial or axial distribution. Available in top or side entry models. The canopy is a robust but light weight silicon aluminium alloy LM6M casting with either central tapped boss with locking nut (top entry) or bracket entry, bracket stop and mosture baffle (side entry). A drainage channel is also provided to lead any condensation from the bracket arm out of the lantern. The prismatic bowl is carried in a cast aluminium frame hinged on one side of the lantern. Two snap action steel toggle fasteners are provided on either side of the canopy. Felt gaskets are interposed between the bowl and its frame. Screwed to the inside of the canopy is a cast lampholder bridge piece. It is specially shaped so no condensate can fall on the lampholder or lamp. Light control is achieved primarily by the prismatic bowl. A top reflector is provided to ensure maximum light output. Alternative sets of clearly marked bosses are provided for the mounting of the lampholder bridge so that the two sizes of lamp are accommodated in the correct focal position.
