SPECIFICATION
Manufacture: Centrifugally spun in steel moulds using best quality aggregate
accurately weigh batched with graded sharp washed sand and rapid hardening cement. After
spinning and curing columns are ground to give a pleasing appearance which is both permanent
and weather resistant.
Reinforcement: A lattice framework of malformed high tensile steel with
mild steel links ensuring maximum bond with the concrete. Accurate placing of the reinforcing
cage is ensured by the use of special concrete spacers. The column spigot tube on which
the bracket locates is galvanised and welded to the main reinforcement.
Brackets: All welded steel tubular construction with galvanised lantern
spigot tube.
B.S. Specification: All columns comply with B.S. 1308, 1957, and the
revised B.S. to be published shortly.
Designs: Designs approved by the C.O.I.D.
Special Notes: Under the recent revision of B.S. 1308 to be issued shortly,
allied with the changeover to metric dimensions, there has been a change in the definition
of Mounting Height and Bracket Outreach. All customers are advised to familiarize themselves
with the new definitions on which all dimensions for metric columns are based.
Mounting Height: (For columns with brackets). Approximate vertical distance
between surface of carriageway and centre of lantern, which is taken as 200mm below
horizontal centre line of bracket arm.
Bracket Projection: The horizontal distance between the centre line of
column and the concrete at the end of the bracket arm.
NOTES ON HANDLING
'ELECOSlim' street lighting columns are designed to withstand all normal
stresses incurred during manufacture, transport and erection: nevertheless we bring to
your notice several points which will help prevent damage after they leave our factory.
Slinging: The use of two point slings is strongly advised whenever possible:
the pick up points being immediately below the gear compartment and about one fifth of the column
length from the shaft top. During erection a single lift position is generally used,
and, with care, should not damage the column. When handling by crane avoid snatching during
lift.
Stacking: Use only two rows of bearers which must be placed vertically
above one another when the columns are stacked; approximately 1/5 of column from either
end, we do not advise stacks higher than 8 rows. Should columns have to be moved over
any considerable distance notched bearers are advisable to avoid lateral movement.
Erection: We can provide a complete erection service but gladly offer the
benefit of our experience should customers prefer to carry out their own erection.
