The box is constructed of malleable cast iron. The two cast brass terminal blocks are mounted on a moulded
bakelite base which has a dividing fillet, this unit being attached to the back of the cast iron box by two brass
screws, a micanite disc providing a high degree of insultation from the iron body.
The flexible conductors from the lampholder are looped through and soldered on to the terminal blocks.
The lead from the shell of the holder is distinguished by the letter "N" stamped on the bakelite, and this
lead should be connected to the neutral cable. The lid of the box is rendered watertight by a wide rubber
washer. A visible earthing screw is provided.
G.E.C. "Type D" connecting boxes are available for rigid suspension on eitehr bracket arms from ¾-in.
gas to 1½-in. gas, span wire clamps, raising and lowering gear, or pipe clamps from tramway pole
bracket arms.
The boxes can also be supplied for shackle fixing for lanterns having a symmetric light distribution. Directional
lanterns must, of course, be rigidly fixed.
