Clearmain 9504 And 9506 Lantern
For Osram Linear Sodium Lamps

Specification Clearmain 9504C And 9506C

Use
Main road lighting, the spacing/mounting height ratio should not exceed 3:1.

Lamp
200-watt Osram linear sodium lamp.

Mounting
The Z9504/6 'C' side entry lantern requires not less than 5 in of horizontal unthreaded 1.1/4 in. B.S.P. When fully home two 7/16 in diameter Allen type grub screws grip the barrel. Water running along the barrel is prevented from entering the lantern by a water baffle.

Lantern Body
One-piece light alloy die-casting. The inner surface of the body is white enamelled. The Z9504 'C' body carries the lampholders, thermal relay and porcelain terminal block. An earthing screw and porcelain cable cleat are provided. The Z9506 'C' lantern carries the lamp operating gear in the lantern body. The transformer, power factor correciton capacitor and thermal relay are fixed to a removable gear tray. The gear tray is finished in glossy synthetic white enamel. The lantern can be fitted with fuses if required.

Lampholders
Two moulded, insultated bi-pin holders.

Optical System
Light control is provided by two anodised aluminium mirrors fixed one to each inner side of a 'Perspex' bowl. The bowl is a one-piece moulding, the upper portion and ends being finished silver whilst the lower is clear. The bowl is hinged to the lantern body and fastened by means of two stainless steel toggle catches. A tropicalised felt gasket between the body casting and the bowl ensures a weatherproof seal when the lantern is closed.

Weathering Finish
The alloy used is specially selected for its resistance to corrosion. Further protection is obtained by the use of a pre-treatment primer and stove enamel top coat.

This iso-candela diagram is based on an average lamp light output through life from a 200-watt Osram linear sodium lamp (18,400 lumens average, applicable at time of print).

Directional intensity ratio: 2.5:1
Light above horizontal: Nil
Light output ratio: 60%
Lumens in the lower hemisphere: 11,000

Light distribution data are given for the guidance of the lighting engineer and represent the average results of laboratory tests on a number of lanterns taken at random from stock. The data are based on the lamp characteristics stated; if the latest lamp efficiency is different, the candela or lumen values should be calculated in direct proportion to the relative lamp lumens.

Lantern weights
Z9504 'C'; 25 lb (11.3kg)
Z9506 'C' complete with gear; 44 lb (19.9kg)
