Clearspace 8455 Lantern
For Osram Fluorescent Tubes

Specification Clearspace 8455

Use
Side road lighting, mounting height 13-15 ft (3.96m - 4.57m), spacing 80-100 ft (24m - 30m). The lantern is also very suitable for decorative garden, promenade and balustrade lighting, housing estates, space lighting in front of offices, blocks of flats, halls, etc.

Tubes
Two 2ft (610 mm) 40W Osram fluorescent tubes type MCFA/U. Switchless start.

Mounting
Post top spigot cap for a 2.3/8in (60.3 mm) dia. x 3in (76.2 mm) high spigot. The lantern is secured by three 7/16 in dia. Allen type grub screws in the spigot cap. Alternative sizes of spigot cap can be supplied to order.

Lantern Body
The lantern body is built around a centre tube of 3/4 in. B.S.P. The tube carries two end straps each supporting two bi-pin tube holders. The uppermost strap also supports the tube operating gear. A cast-iron spigot cap is screwed onto the lower end of the centre tube.

The outer base of the lantern body is pressed as one piece in brass, thus obviating seam joints. An inner base of brass is provided, giving the lower body double thickness.

The upright glazing bars and door frame are of heavy extruded brass.

The outer top is a copper spinning, pressed to a hexagonal form, again obviating exposed joints. The top cone is also of spun copper. The top rpessing and spinning are secured by a solid gunmetal knob which, when screwed down, makes the lantern totally enclosed and weatherproof.

Optical System
The opal 'Perspex' cylinder provides a diffusive symmetric light distribution.

Weathering Finish
The cylinder is made of 'Perspex'. The finial and all top and bottom spinnings are of aluminium. All are finished a handsome high gloss bronze.

The lantern with the top canopy removed and door opened showing tube operating gear and access to interior for tube replacement.

The polar curves is based on an average tube light output through
life from two 40W Osram warm white fluorescent tubes (2880 lumens average).

Light distribution around the lantern through maximum intensity.

Light distribution data are given for the guidance of the lighting engineer and represent the average results of laboratory tests on a number of lanterns taken at random from stock. The data are based on the tube characteristics stated; if the latest tube efficiency is different, the candela or lumen values should be calculated in direct proportion to the relative tube lumens.

Lantern weight: 30lb (13.6 kg).
