Johnson and Phillips
16 Union Court
London, EC

"Between 1894 and 1900 a big change came in my experience. These years were spent with Messrs. Johnson And Phillips Ltd., in the arc lamp shops at Charlton. Arc lamps had apparently become the thing. Carbon lamps that were non-focusing were rarely made, and added to the single-pair type a design for two pairs was developed. Lamps were made by the thousand and were despatched everywhere. The obstacles in the way of type of electricity generation were overcome. Direct, alternating, rectified - either parallel or series - all were accommodated." - Thos. G. Bransford, Public Lighting #9, 1938
