Highway Reference Book 1951

Dating from 1951, The Highway Reference Book included a page of Parkinson's lanterns and brief descriptions of their uses.

GAS LIGHTING

PARKINSON & COWEN (GAS METERS), LTD., BIRMINGHAM, 9

The new MAXILLA JUNIOR LANTERN has been introduced to meet the demand for an economic street lighting system for residential districts and side streets where directional reflection is not always essential, and where it is desirable for gas consumption to be reduced.

THE MAXILLA range of upright and suspendsion lanterns has been specially designed for residential areas and roads for Group "B" lighting. Great post-war improvements have been made.

The astragals are made as narrow as possible, shadows have been reduced to a minimum, and the 40-faceted reflectors made adjustable. Side and base have been made rectangular in order to facilitate replacement of the glass panels. Standard interchangeable parts have been adopted where possible; the whole of the burner assembly, for example, is the same for all lanterns.

Ignition device, clock controller and constant-pressure governor are neatly housed and concealed behind the reflectors.
