Phosware SO.140 lantern is specially designed for use with concrete brackets and has been accepted by the Council of Industrial Design
for inclusion in Design Review.
For use with Group A Street Lighting at a mounting height of 25 feet with an average spacing of 120 feet in accordance with the
British Standard Code of Practice for Traffic Routes.
The body casting and hinged ring are of corrosion resisting aluminium-alloy and are made in two types, for side entry and top
entry fixing. The castings are treated with an undercoat of protective paint with high class top-coat, white on the underside and
hammered metallic beige outside finish.
In the interior of the body casting is fitted a cast bracket carrying a porcelain lampholder and a terminal block which is wired with
40/.0076 asbestos covered flexible cable and also an earthing screw.
A detachable over reflector is fitted with a lso a metal support for the lamp bulb.
The enclosing bowl is of clear Perspex of special design with fluted ends to spread the end light, and also a mottled base to
diffuse the immediate downward light. The two sides are fitted with sealed Perspex prismatic panels to give an axial light distribution
in accordance with the B.S. Code of Practice for Traffic Routes.
The complete lantern has very clean lines and there are no projecting excrescences of hinges and catches. A very robust hinge is
at one end with a special clip at the other with only needs a 90o turn to open or fasten, the lantern being sealed with
a suitable gasket to make it dust-tight and easy for maintenance.
These lanterns can be supplied with Control Gear fixed in the Hood.

Phosware Group B Enclosed Sodium Lanterns are made in a complete range of types suitable for installation on all kinds of bracket
suspension.
For concrete top entry, Swan neck B.S. tube and for Harp shaped B.S. tube top or double side entry.
They are made in two sizes, P.120/21 for 45 Watt Sodium lamps only and P.122/23 for 45 or 60W Sodium lamps.
The specification is the same for the large size SO.140 for traffic routes.
The light distribution are in accordance with Part 2 of the B.S. Code of Practice and the lanterns are suitable to both B1 and
B2 lighting. The above light distribution curves are based on the initial lumen output of the lamps as published by the
lamp manufactures.

Paddington Post Top Lanterns
The Paddington Post Top lantern has been specially designed to match the architecture of the Georgian period, at the same time
advantage has been taken of modern developments in lighting to use Sodium lamps with their high efficiency, together with a double tier
prismatic refrator to control and redirect the light in a 2-way non-axial direction up and down the thoroughfare.
The lantern is conical in shape with an ornamental corona and glazed in three circular sections with clear perspex. One section is hinged
for access to the lamp.
The body and glazing bars are of non-ferrous sheet metal, while the corona and spigot cap are cast silicon aluminium. The standard finish
of the metal work is black.
