ELECTRIC LIGHTING

SIEMENS ELECTRIC LAMPS & SUPPLIES LTD., LONDON, E.C.4

Sieray tungsten filament, mercury and sodium discharge and the new fluorescent lamps, together with the well-known Sieray Dual are all available in suitable wattages for various types of roads.

A wide range of lanterns, poles, control gear, etc., is available, including the two latest developments, viz., the Wilton-Sieray 3-80 watt for Class "A" roads and the Wilton-Sieray 2-40 watt for Class "B" roads.

THE WILTON-SIERAY 3-80 LANTERN

Details of construction include: aluminium body braced by transverse and longitudinal U channels, control gear platform completely wired with three sets of "Sieray" long type control gear (choke, power factor capacitor, quick start transformer and radio suppressor capacitor), three anodized aluminium reflectors of fixed contour, and separate clear "Perspex" moulded doors. The unit is suitable for pole or spanwire mounting.

For pole mounting the lantern is erected in four simple sections. A robust mild steel frame bracket is bolted in place first, followed by the control gear platform ready assembled and wired. The anodized aluminium reflectors are then clipped in and held by turn screws. Finally, the "Perspex" doors are added and secured at the base of the lantern by wing-nuts.

The lantern accommodates three 80-watt "Daylight", "Natural" or "Warm White" fluorescent tubes. A mounting height of 25 ft. is recommended and a spacing of 40 yards to give 6,000 lumens per 100-ft. linear of road. The ratio of the peak candle power to the average of the values in all directions downward from the source and lying 30° and 45° from the vertical is less than five.
