Erection Of A 25' Column

Erection of a 25ft. column without the use of a crane involves the use of lifting tackle that is readily available.

Requirements:
Two 24ft. scaffold poles with 6" butt and 3" top.
Two scaffold ropes for binding tops of poles.
One chain 3ft. long to carry a load of 30 cwt., with large and small eyes fitted at each end.
One set of 30 cwt. blocks with 20ft. hook to hook chain to suit operating at ground level.
Two 7/8" manila (or 7/8" steel wire) guy ropes 75ft. long, and three 7/8" guy ropes 50ft. long.
Four 4ft. stakes.
One 5/8" wire sling 9ft. long, with large eyes.
One piece of dry sacking to wrap round the column.

The column and bracket are erected as one unit, the latter being adjusted and firmly locked in position after erection.

Erection is easy and can be carreid out in approximately thirty minutes. The use of the crane will, however, cut the erection time considerably.

Loose ferrous fittings supplied with columns should be suitably protected with red lead or other protective agent during erection.
