Founded in 1924 by Jules Thorn as the Electric Lamp Service Company. Becomes Thorn Electrical Industries
in 1936 when the company is made public.
Manufactures lamps and luminaires under the Atlas trade name in 1933.
Purchases 5% of the shares of AEI Lamps And Lighting in 1958/9, along with
the GEC.
Takes a controlling share in AEI Lamps And Lighting in 1964 after
purchasing 64% of the stock. The company also
forms British Lighting Industries, a holding company, to pool all its lamp and luminaire manufacturing in
the same year.
Purchased the remaing 35% of AEI Lamps And Lighting in 1967. The lighting ranges
were consolidated under British Lighting Industries.
