We reached a junction but pressed on, down the northern tunnel until we reached its end.

The wartime plans showed a more extensive tunnel network, and it appears that work simply stopped. The chalk face is chipped and hard; the metal ceiling can be seen above it, and the arched brickwork then covers that.

Considering the shelter’s age, the tunnels have performed well, and there was no signs of cracking or subsidence.
