The ward gave a good view of Donne/Dickens. The sheer, three storey neighbour disappeared from view behind a tree,
the ward’s face a featureless, flat wall punctuated by double windows. The narrow slits above each revealed that each was a single room.
There was little to see in the sodden remains of Cruden/Chaucer so we slowly filed out and silently made our
way around the horseshoe to the next doorway.
