Some of these rooms were quite treacherous as many of the manhole covers had been removed - offering sudden, expected and unwelcome drops to the unwary.

The tunnels looked deep and exciting in this part of the hospital - but this one was blocked with rubbish thrown down the shaft.

"This tunnel entrance doesn't go into the main tunnels. Once at the bottom, you could go through a thick metal door and otherwise go into the base of the chimney to clear ash, or down over a almost completely brick filled tunnel. I'm 90% sure now that this would have lead to the old boiler house, and would have been used to vent steam." - Andrew.
