Long Grove was literally built across the road from Horton, using G T Hine’s plans yet again. Apart from moving the location of the Admin Block, the hospital (in plan form) is a replica of Horton.

Built between 1903 and 1907, the LCC obviously had a bit more money to spend, and the hospital was built with more architectural embellishment than the plain Horton asylum.

It closed in 1992, and was quickly boarded up.

It has now been demolished, and a new housing estate stands on the site. The Admin Block has been converted to flats (and it looks very impressive) along with one ward wing. The rest of Long Grove is a memory.

Left: Wards and buildings at Horton. Alas, I will never explore this one.
