The eastern spur of the school included the large Activity Area which occupied the entire width of the
building. Little remained except for some bits and pieces of furniture and a large fish tank.

The vandals had been at work, smashing the front of the tank. The addition of flippers and goggles (presumably
from the swimming pool next door) was a droll touch.

Many rooms around the school had been decorated with twisting vines, emerging foliage and pretty plants
growing from skirting boards or squeezing around window edges. It was now ironic that nature was now
mimicking art, with real branches and tendrils bursting through broken windows and growing from sodden
carpets.
