Before I came, I knew that Hellingly was smashed. Brutally obliterated by
vandals who’d come specially to do it; they’d travelled far, and so felt obliged to do the
most damage they could. And then the hospital infrastructure itself had just also given up.
For example, Park Prewett, Cherry Knowle and Rauceby: all
by the same architect, built to the same specifications, all still relatively intact, all derelict for the same
amount of time. And then there’s Hellingly; smashed and falling to pieces.
