After being left all this land and a rather swanky Victorian manor house called Great Bar Hall in the 1900s, the Walsall
and West Bromwich Boards of Guardians built this complex: the Great Barr Park Idiot Colony in 1929.
The date tallies well with the style of architecture and the separation of the complex into villas. If it’d
been built twenty years earlier, we’d be dealing with a echelon style asylum.
Later, as most of these places were, it was rechristened as St. Margret’s Hospital.
