The alter end of the Chapel – it was looking rather mournful now, but easily matched the architectural flourishes of the main hospital.

"I believe the Essex Regiment had much to do with the Hospital at the turn of the 1900's. I know there were tons of pictures in the main foyer of the army encampent which seemed to be near the hospital."

" The Essex Regiment were based at Warley Barracks, built in 1805, just round the corner along Eagle Way. A Google reveals that the barracks were not big enough to house a Battalion in the 1950s and tentage was erected on their sports field, possibly in the 19th/early 20th century they camped at the Warley Hospital grounds.

In the 1960's Ford Motor Company built a large office block on the site. The beautiful Essex Regiment Chapel still serves the public and there is a Territorial Army centre next door."
