Even from a distance, it was clear that the main part of the hall was simply an empty
shell. The fire (a multiple source fire started by arsonists) was ferocious and the roof
and floors had caved in leaving the interior strewn with rubble. Many of the walls now
stood in a precarious condition, presumably simply resting up on each other. As a ruin,
it looked like one which could come down at any time.
