QinetiQ were the government owned company who sold the site for development who owned the majority of the labs there.

That lab was the biggest of its kind in Europe and cost the the taxpayer some £10m to build in the mid 80s. It was effectively levelled at a complete loss to the government."

So these were Anechoic Chambers. And were used for:

  • Electronic Warfare (EW) systems testing capability.
  • Transportable complex signal generation capability.
  • EMC emissions and susceptibility testing.
  • The ability to accommodate high power RF emitters.
