Built during the RAF expansion period of 1936, RAF Upwood was the home of bomber
squadrons during the war. In later years, the USAF moved in, and formed a sizeable US presence
in the immediate area (along with RAF Wyton and RAF Alconbury).
The USAF pulled out in the mid-nineties and RAF Upwood was put on
the market. A property developer snapped it up, but while the usual arguments
about housing densities and facilities dragged on, the site started to rot.
This place is vast – utterly vast. Here’s a fraction of what can be seen.
