Unbelievably rare now, this was the original Alpha 8 sold by Atlas before it was replaced years later by the SON lantern.

Not only did this lantern take two 400W MBF/U bulbs, all access was through a door in the top of the lantern.

The lantern originally stood in Hyde Park, London, and was probably part of the first SON scheme in the country. John Thompson did all the legwork getting these.
