Use
Side road lighting, 13-15 ft. (4-4.5 m) mounting height, spacing 100-120 ft. (30.5-36.5 m)
for best results. Road width up to 30 ft. (9.5m). This lantern is also very useful for
decorative garden, promenade and balustrade lighting, new housing estates, space lighting
in front of offices, blocks of flats, halls etc.
Lamps
Z5640 & Z5643 for use with 60-200 watt Osram tungsten filament
lamp, B.C. cap.
Z5641 & Z5644 for use with 80 watt or 125 watt Osram MB/U or
MBF/U colour-corrected mercury lamp, three-pin B.C. cap.
Z5642 & Z5645 for use with 60-200 watt Osram tungsten filament
lamp, E.S. cap.
Z5646 & Z5647 for use with 45 watt Osram integral SOI or 40 watt
SOX sodium lamp.
Mounting
Post top spigot cap for a 3 in. (76.2 mm) diam. x 3 in. (76.2 mm) high spigot. The lantern
is secured by three 3/8 in. diameter socket head grub screws in the spigot cap.
Lantern Body
The body consists of a truncated cone of injection moulded "Diakon" held between a cast
aluminium spigot cap and a spun alloy top. The cone is smooth on the exterior and has vertical
flutes inside.
Two vertical rods join the spigot cap to the top lampholder bridge. A casting sliding on these
rods carries the dome refractor. This enables the lantern to be focused for the full range of
lamp wattages.
A cast finial, screwed down agains the the spun top, holds the complete assembly rigidly. An
earthing screw is provided. The Z5643 series of lantern has a 23 in. diam. spun
alloy "mushroom" canopy.
Optical System
A dome refractor controls the light distribution, two forms are available:
1. Symmetric all-round distribution with Z6502 (reference letter "S") dome refractor.
2. 160 degrees non-axial asymmetric, main light output up and down the street just away from the
kerb, with Z5608 (reference letter "N") dome refractor.
Note: It is necessary to quote the reference letter which identifies the light distribution
required when ordering lanterns.
The dome refractor is held against the refractor carrier by stainless steel clips engaging
with a lip on the top inner edge of the refractor. This leaves the prismatic surface
entirely unobstructed and facilitates cleaning.
When using a sodium lamp no dome refractor is required.
A special feature of the lantern is the moulded diffusing "Diakon" dish supporting the cone.
This allows light from the lamp to reach the foot of the column, preventing patches of
shadow.
Anti-Vandal: Both the cone and the diffusing dish are available in anti-vandal
polycarbonate, a material which is virtually unbreakable.
Weathering Finish
The alloy used is specially selected for its resistance to corrosion. Further protection
is obtained by the use of a special two-coat aluminium finish stove enamel.
