GEC Lantern for Super SOX Sodium Lamp

Application
The lantern is designed for Group A10 installations at a mounting height of 10 meters as defined in B.S. C.P. 1004:Part 2:1974.

Compliance
The lantern complies with all respects with the requirements of B.S. 4533:Part 2:Section 2.7:1976 and carries the British Standards Institution Kite Mark of approval. The lantern is acceptable to the Department of the Environment.

Lamp
Z9554M semi cut-off lantern meets the application stated above when fitted with a 135 watt Super SOX Lamp.

Mounting
A side entry socket is provided to accept a 100mm or 125mm long spigot 42mm diameter. A baffle is provided at the end of the socket to prevent the entry of water into the lantern.

Lantern Construction
The body is a high pressure moulding in glass reinforced SMC. The side entry socket has a cast LM6 aluminium alloy ring moulded in during the curing process. The casting is tapped to accept two M10 socket head screws used to secure the lantern to the spigot.

A special feature is the removable one piece injection moulded acrylic bowl with sealed refractor plates.

When hanging in the open position the bowl cannot be accidentally dislodged but by turning it through 90° it can be lifted off for ease of cleaning or replacement.

All external metal parts for the hinges and fastenings are made of stainless steel.

A lamp steady and porcelain B.C. lampholder are fitted. The lampholder is wired to the terminal block with non-hygroscopic P.V.C. insulated cable.

Photo Electric Cell Control
The lantern can be supplied for use with a wide choice of photo-electric cell control units on a central mounting platform.

Optical System
The distribution of the lantern is achieved by a combination of sealed-in injection moulded refractor plates and moulded prisms on the lower half of the bowl. Injection moulding permits a very high degree of accuracy in prismatic control and full use is made of this advantage to produce a smooth intensity distribution in the principal vertical plane free from re-entrants, and a high light output ratio.

Finish
The body is self-coloured light grey and the inside is enamelled white.
