sordoviso

Sordoviso Switchgear Limited
Falcon Works
Loughborough
UK

The company have been making various types of Street Lighting Automatic Control for some years. Their systems are characterised by their extreme simplicity made possible by the use of non-tilting mercury switches, one of the main features being the extremely small energising current required for operation. In the main, their systems are dependent upon pilot wires for their operation, but this has the advantage of a positive control, free from outside interference, and avoids the installation of complicated control equipment at the substation. They are exhibiting the Sordoviso Delay Cascade System which ensures that sections come into operation with a suitable time-lag so as to prevent the overloading of the supply mains. - APLE Conference Programme Glasgow 1945

The exhibit on the stand is intended to demonstrate two method of Sordoviso street lighting. They are a Delay Cascade System for the four outlying areas in a small township plus a "Whole night" and "Part night" scheme for the Town Centre and the main through roads. The simplicity of the system is evident from the fact only two tumbler switches are used for the control of the whole system, one for the Delay System and the other for the "Whole and Part" scheme. - APLE Conference Programme Eastbourne 1948
