Described as one of the largest types of steel column made, it had a fluted and stepped shaft,
cast iron base and the bracket arms projected straight from the side of the column giving a total
span between the lanterns of 15'.
Result of a consultation with the Royal Fine Art Commission and is of a
design recommended by them. Also complies with B.S.I. draft for steel tubular
lighting columns, under consideration in 1939. (Finally issued in 1946).
