Concrete Lantern
For Group B lighting, this design evolved in collaboration with Siemens in 1945 to form part of a concrete bracket arm. (Concrete Utilities hold the patent). "The cast concrete head carries a ring, to which are fixed the lampholder supports, porviding three lampholder positions, and to which a Holophane Duo-Dome refractor is attached by three special fasteners. A quarter-turn of these fasteners instantly frees the refractor for cleaning etc., without the removal of any stud or nut. All rings and supports, etc., are made of non-corrodible metal, consequently maintenance is reduced to the absolute minimum. A Concrete Lantern for Group 'A' lighting (400W HPMV) is in course of development, and this will incorporate an ingenious method of dissipating heat from the lantern interior, the subject matter of a patent." The idea is to minimalise maintenance.
