atlas lighting

This catalogue of Atlas' street lighting lanterns features detailed technical descriptions of each lantern.

The range described is post 1964: the Code Of Practice 1004 (1963) is mentioned, Atlas is described as a subsidiary of British Lighting Industries (which was formed in 1964 between Thorn and AEI), and SOX lamps are occasionally specified.

The lanterns show some evolution of design whilst others have been replaced by similar models from the AEI range. The original Alpha Two, Alpha Four (both fluorescent lanterns) and Alpha Six have been discontinued; the Beta Two (a fluorescent lantern) has gone, but the entire Gamma range is still present. The Beta Four, Five and Six have been replaced by AEI models. And the Alpha Three has now changed to a four-clip design.

Of interest is the Alpha Five (which is still the Atlas version) and the newly-introduced short-lived Alpha Eight.
